What the ratio means
If gold is $2,000 per troy ounce and silver is $25, the ratio is 80: it takes 80 ounces of silver to match the value of 1 ounce of gold. A higher ratio means silver is cheap relative to gold, a lower ratio means it is relatively more expensive.
Over the last century the ratio has ranged from roughly 15 to over 120. Some stackers watch it and shift between metals when it moves a long way from its usual range. That is a personal strategy, not a guarantee. Ratios can stay stretched for years, and nothing here is financial advice.
How it is calculated
Ratio = gold price per troy ounce ÷ silver price per troy ounce, both in US dollars, both at the same moment. The numbers above use live spot prices and refresh about once a minute while this page is open.
